Online 'shopping assistant'

When you are ordering goods or services online, how do you know that you can trust the website? The European Consumer Centre (ECC) in Dublin and other members of the ECC network across Europe have launched an "online shopping assistant" to do just that.

The online assistant called Howard helps consumers find out how reputable a website is. Howard is particularly useful the first time you use a new website and also has plenty of good advice on online shopping.

Basically it is a web search tool that gets key information about an online shopping site, in order to work out how trustworthy it is likely to be. This includes how old the site is, whether it is a member of a trustmark scheme, and how long the "right to cancel" period is in the country where the business is based.
